2018 VP₁ is an Apollo near-Earth asteroid roughly 2 meters in diameter. It has a 0.41% chance of impacting Earth on 2 November 2020. It was discovered on 3 November 2018 when the asteroid was about 0.003 AU from Earth and had a solar elongation of 165 degrees. The asteroid has a short 12.9 day observation arc and has not been detected since November 2018. The JPL Horizons 2 November 2020 nominal Earth approach is estimated to be roughly 0.0028 AU. The line of variation allows the asteroid to impact Earth or pass as far away as 0.025 AU. However, it is not listed as a Potentially hazardous asteroid due to its small size. Source: I am NASA

That asteroid is only 2 meters across. Even if it hits, it will create a bolide (bright burst of light) and only very small and harmless fragments wil lreach the ground. For comparison, the Chelyabinsk meteor from 2013 was much larger (20 m in diameter) and nobody died from it.

Can you please hurry it up, I just wants this 2020 to be over now....

We, Earth, get hit by asteroids < 2m every month . Don't be an asshole stop spreading unnecessary panic

Saleem Raj

Since the asteroid VP1 is going into orbit in 2018, it comes quite close to our planet. Its size is two meters by 92 centimeters, its weight is 15 kilos. Asteroids of this size usually burn up before they enter the earth's atmosphere. For this reason, there is no need to worry about an impending collision. The chance that VP1 will hit Earth at all in 2018 is 1 in 240, as experts have explained.
