An important document that we should understand

The Emancipation Proclamation, given to readers free by Amazon, is worth reading to understand an important event during the Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln felt during the war that he could not free the slaves in the northern states, but only free those in the rebellious south (over which he had no control during the war). The proclamation was issued on September 22, 1862 and would become effective against states and parts of states still in rebellion on January 1, 1863. The president wrote that the proclamation was a “necessary war measure for suppressing said rebellion.” He, in essence gave the states and parts of states who were in rebellion three months, 100 days, to end the rebellion, otherwise they would lose their slaves.

A Important Historic Document

On September 22, 1862, President Lincoln issued the preliminary version of The Emancipation Proclamation. I urge all Americans to read this document and understand its importance in American history. Many believe this document was an action to end slavery and grant black Americans the same freedom and rights enjoyed by white Americans. Nothing is further from the truth. Lincoln was first and formost driven to perserve the Union by putting down the rebellion that threatened the United States. By issuing such a document,, he knew that he had struck a blow against the South’s strength by providing an incentive for slaves to escape creating a distraction and weakening the economic stability of the Confederacy. Without slaves for labor and with its men fighting, the Southern economy would be weakened. Further, this action united the Republican Party to push for the complete abolishment of slavery and to stave off any military interference on the part of England or France. Lincoln believed that by issueing the Emancipation Proclamation, the will of the people of the Union and the Constitution was thrust upon the Confederates. There is little doubt that Lincoln hated slavery and desired abolition but, in 1862-1863 few white Americans would have even entertained the notion of equal rights under the law for black Americans. They would wait more than 100 years to attain the basic rights granted by the US Constiitution.

Amazing Proclamation!!!

Of course, this Emancipation Proclamation is awesome and deserves a five-Star rating. At the senior age of 69 years, I wish I had read this years ago. I read Uncle Tom's Cabin years ago and could not believe the harsh realities of slavery that unfolded and were revealed. Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote from the heart and I wept. Today we are facing another slavery with sex trafficking and it is affecting every race. May God help us see it stamped out before long as well. My family has been targeted as well as so many others.

Great Gift for Any American or Would-Be American VI

Freedom From Slavery

"The Emancipation Proclamation" (Sept 22. 1862) by President Abraham Lincoln concerning any person held in slavery in the United States and its' Territories were forever free. They were at this time free to work for wages, and any state holding persons as slaves were in rebellion against the United States of America. The Army and Navy were charged to support this proclamation. The war was started to bring the rebelling states back into the Union, but in the end the slaves were set free and able to remain in the United States. It was suggested that the slaves should return to Africa, and some slaves returned to Africa. However, slaves were born in the United States and were granted the right to stay in the United States as citizens. SPR

Abraham Lincoln was THE Greatest President to ever live

Abraham Lincoln was THE Greatest President to ever live. For those re-learning Washington's Bio these days who disagree or who want to point out Reagan freed MILLIONS from Soviet Hegemony I must needs ask "Without his courage to free the Slaves, if their Freedom was obtained years or decades or even a Generation later at even more suffering to our National Soul what kind of Nation would we be now?" He Freed the Slaves He embraced the Confederates & welcomed them back as Brothers "with Malice Toward None!" His Legacy is the American Spirit, sometimes battered, never broken, always Faithful to pursue the Truth.

This is a must -

We've all heard about it, were told what it did and most never read it! Take a few moments and see this for yourself. POST REVIEW, I've read several of the reviews and it appears obvious that many of us are moving with eyes closed. Lincoln didn't free anyone that he had control over and the states and locations that had slaves and were not in revolt against the federal government were unaffected and remained slaves. Who are we kidding, this was nothing more than a war strategy. Lincoln's only concern was to hold the union and nothing more. If you look at the facts, slavery would have died on its own regardless of war or not.

Important Document...

Purchased this along with our other founding documents so our grandson Know what our Republic is founded on. God forbid we teach this in our BROKEN SCHOOL SYSTEMS... God Bless Our Republic....

Emancipation Prcolamation

Short and to the point on the subject on freeing the slaves as a military necessities. That and now and forever since that day President Lincoln signed into law that added to the 13 amendment for the rights of slaves to be free.

Abe was a very shrewd tactision.

A careful reading of this document allows the reader to reach an undeniable truth. Abe Lincoln only freed the slaves in confederate held lands, doing nothing to upset slave owners in Union held territory. The real purpose in this proclamation was hopefully to generate animosity of the slaves in confederate lands so as to cause them to rise up, thereby creating a new enemy from within.
